30 By 30 is a series of posts where I discuss a combination of 30 lessons, observations, and experiences (+ whatever else I think up) that I’ve gone through right before I turn 30 this Summer.
Today on 30 Before 30….
#3 This is a huge discomfort of mine that really puts a bad taste in my mouth. I can’t stand it when people encourage everyone around them to do drugs or drink alcohol, and I mean that from hard drugs all the way down. Before putting anything into your body you should understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how it could negatively affect you because not everything is always peaches and rainbows. Just because your friend had a good time doing something doesn't mean that you will, so make sure that you're thinking for yourself and not for the thrill of the moment. Your mental and emotional state plays a huge role in all of this and sometimes it’s just better to say no altogether. Not everyone is built the same and it’s important to remember that. I've experienced a lot personally due to drug and alcohol use at a young age and I've also seen what it can do to other people and it's not pleasant sight, it's more painful than anything. Be responsible, mindful, aware, and try not to succumb to peer pressure; it's not worth it. If there are people around you that push you to drink alcohol or use drugs despite you saying "no", then these people may not be compatible with you. Real friends understand the word "no."
#4 Appreciate people, places, and things while they are in your life. Things change as time passes and sometimes what you know becomes what you knew. It’s just a part of life. I try my best to be present throughout my day-to-day life because I’m aware that one day things will change, and I don’t know what that change may look like. It could be good, it could be bad but either way, shit happens, and I’ve learned to roll with the punches. Appreciate the little things. Appreciate yourself and your loved ones and let them know that you love them. Tomorrow is never guaranteed and that alone makes me want to live everyday to the fullest, whatever “the fullest” means to me that day.

#4 was amazing! There have been many times in my life where "I didn't realize what I had until it was gone," or "I didn't realize how shitty of a situation I was in" because I wasn't present. I used to spend my life thinking of what was or where I could be. My main focus and goal these past few years have to be fully present and conscious.
I only wish at that age, I was as wise. As a person of the baby boom and of color, pressure and bulling was almost inevitable. It is great to see a younger generation that will speak up and stand up more so than past generations.😎
